FWP’s stylish new bar gets a great Review

The latest attraction in Preston’s iconic Guild Hall created by the Frank Whittle Partnership (FWP) has opened its doors to the public.

The stylish new cocktail bar called Review has been created in the former tourist information centre at the front of the building.

It was unveiled at a special VIP opening event and is set to become one of the most popular venues in the city centre.

The architecture and design team at Preston-based FWP has created the stylish, contemporary of the new attraction, right down to its simple but effective logo – inspired by the drama masks of Greek theatre.

The new-look Review bar also incorporates the striking original architectural features of the Guild Hall, which makes it one of the most distinctive buildings in the North West.

A pioneering partnership between the Fishergate Shopping Centre and The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) kicked off with a glamorous fashion show and a search for Preston’s next top models.

Third year Fashion Promotion with Styling students at UCLan were given a live brief by the Fishergate Shopping Centre to create and deliver all aspects of the ‘Fishergate Face Off’ fashion show, from styling and production through to finance and marketing.

It’s part of an ongoing link-up between the University and the shopping centre which sees undergraduates on Fashion Promotion with Styling and Retail Management courses work on real-life projects and gain valuable industry insight.

CPUK sent to Coventry to build £6.6m student development

Leading independent building group Construction Partnership UK (CPUK) is set to start work on a £6.6 million student accommodation contract in the West Midlands as its order book grows to more than £60 million.

The scheme will deliver 155 en-suite student bedrooms on a site located at the gateway to the Coventry University Technology Park and close to the main Coventry University campus, which has an extensive future development programme.

It is the latest in a number of large-scale student development contracts sealed by CPUK and its second major building project in the West Midlands this year as it continues its ambitious expansion plans.

A stunning statue created by apprentices at engineering and fabrication company WEC Group in tribute to Lancashire artist LS Lowry has become a celebrated seaside visitor attraction.

The work celebrates Lowry’s famously painted matchstick man and his dog, included in several of his works, and is located at Knott End on the Lancashire coast.

The statue, commissioned by Preesall Town Council in association with Wyre Borough Council, sits on the town’s ferry slip site where the artist created some of his acclaimed work during summer stays at the seaside village.

Fishergate Shopping Centre unveils £25m revitalisation vision


An ambitious £25 million revitalisation programme for Preston’s Fishergate Shopping Centre has been unveiled today by owners Benson Elliot.

One of the largest private sector investments in the city centre for more than two decades will create over 250 new long-term jobs.

The redundant TJ Hughes store in the centre will be replaced with six modern shop units, a new mall linking to a feature entrance from the car park and a family-oriented leisure offer of five restaurants and a fully integrated compact cinema.
